Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People exists to transform the lives of people who are deaf or have hearing loss by rebuilding connection, companionship and confidence. Around 1 in 3 people in the UK have hearing loss, that’s over 18 million families, friends, colleagues and loved ones. We do this by addressing not just the practical challenges of hearing loss, but the emotional and social impact that often goes unseen.
Our work recognises a simple truth: hearing loss affects far more than hearing. It affects whether people feel safe, included, and connected to everyday life. “Before his arrival, I lived life in the shadows, unable to join in. Now, Wilbur brings warmth and connection every single day” – Lucy talking about her Hearing Dog Wilbur .
We have developed a unique, person-centred model of support, and through highly trained hearing dogs, peer-led support services, and evidence-led innovation, we enable people to reconnect with the world around them.
We are the only organisation in the UK accredited to train and place hearing dogs for deaf people, and we are one of the few charities offering a truly holistic response to hearing loss, supporting people wherever they are on their journey.
